In the wake of the hideous attacks on an elementary school (where 20 children died) many people are stunned and are looking for the answer of why. Unfortunately, there are people in the media, and organizations who are quick to answer these questions with the "God excuse". Why did the children die? Because God hates Gays. Why did the children die? Because we turned our backs on God. Why did the children die? Because of birth control.
These people who try to scare those who are shocked with the loss of innocent children are like sharks who smell blood in the waters and are all too ready to feed on that fear in a frenzy.
I wasn't surprised that Westboro decided to set up protests on the funerals for these young children, and their teachers. This particular ilk have always been good at being a disgraceful lot. But what surprised me is how quickly people like Dobson, Fischer and Huckabee (he honestly surprised me the most) jumped on board to scare the masses with "We've turned our back on God so this is the result".
After an afternoon of commenting it began to occur to me one simple fact that changed how I viewed them, these people by their own words were a bunch of blasphemous heretics of their own religion. God turned his back? How do they know that? By some obscure scripture? How do they know that's the reasoning? Its a failed attempt to humanize something that is truly unknowable.
What happened in Conneticut is a tragety, and one that will be looked at with answers based on facts not snake oil fiction.
