The definition of irony, according to Dictionary.com, is a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated. The TEA Party of the Republican Caucus ran in 2010 with one of their slogans being, "Taxed Enough Already". This year in 2013, they are raising taxes on everyone.
When Republican Speaker John Boehner of Ohio proposed a Plan B earlier in the month of December, it was soundly rejected by his caucus as he wouldn't even allow the Democratic Party have their say on his proposed Plan B. The TEA Party part of the Republican caucus told the American people that the matters of the general welfare of the country was unimportant and that they had better things to do, such as the Christmas Vacation and punted the fiscal responsibility on to the Senate Leaders.
Repeating this, the House of Representatives whose job it is to pass legislation, punted that responsibility of passing a bill to the Upper Chambers of the Senate; then went on Christmas Vacation, stayed out of session longer then the President's or the Senate's Christmas Vacation and tabled any business of the American People.
So now with a deadline that has come and gone, the TEA Party driven Republican Party decides on December 31st not to even participate in the legislative process, again, because President Obama was highly critical of their efforts. Ironically, now supporting the very thing that President Obama criticized the House of Representatives on their lack of movement on the fiscal responsibility of the American People.
Now there is real concern that everyone's taxes will go higher, and services that will be cut. All because the TEA Party picked up their ball and went home.
"Taxed Enough Already"? Apparently that slogan had the fine print of: "too bad".
